ARISS to Promote Scouts, HAM 25th in SSTV Spacetacular

November 5, 2025 – ARISS will begin continuously transmitting a series of 12 SSTV images from the International Space Station (ISS) starting November 12 and running through November 19, with two planned pauses for educational contacts. The images will highlight the World Scouting movement’s Jamboree on the Air, as well as the 25th anniversary of the first ARISS ham radio operations on the International Space Station.

ARISS operations began on November 13, 2000, with the ISS Expedition-1 crew and an Ericsson VHF radio. Shortly thereafter, in late December 2020, we completed the first school contact between ISS commander Bill Shepherd (KD5GSL) and 14 students at the Luther Burbank School in Burbank, Illinois. Today, we typically connect about 200,000 students, educators and enthusiasts every year with people in orbit.

For this month’s event, scouts, educators, students and ham radio enthusiasts everywhere can download the images and send to the ARISS SSTV gallery to receive an electronic awards certificate.

For our recent SSTV event in early October, celebrating World Space Week, we received nearly 9,000 images from more than 3,600 enthusiasts living on all continents, including three participants from Antarctica!
