ARISS News Release No. 25-32 ARISS Contact is Scheduled with Students at Three Schools in Budapest, Puskás, Debrecen, and Mezöberény, Hungary and Scouts in Budapest, Hungary

July 2, 2025 — Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has received schedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between an Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and students/scouts located in various cities in Hungary. ARISS conducts 60-100 of these special amateur radio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the Space Station.

Participating in this ARISS contact are students at:

Budapest Technical Vocational Training Center Puskás Tivadar Telecommunications and Informatics Technical School, Puskás, Hungary;
Debrecen – Bánki Reformed Primary School, Technical College and Vocational Training School, Debrecen, Hungary;
Mezöberényi Petőfi Sándor Evangelical High School, Dormitory and Primary School, Mezöberény, Hungary; and
Scouts at the Hungarian Scout Association center, Budapest, Hungary.

Puskás Tivadar Technical school trains telecommunications technicians and infocommunications networking specialists that are pursuing a four-year baccalaureate or a one or two-year technician course. Students learn about electronics, wired and wireless communications and radio frequency technology with many of them acquiring a radio amateur license while at the school.

Bánki Reformed Primary School has about 185 students, ages 6 -18 years. Students learn about natural science, space research, celestial mechanics, radio communications, amateur radio and morse code. Students also track the ISS when it is visible from their school and listen to radio contacts with a hand-held radio and are supported by the University Amateur Radio Club (callsign HA5MRC).

Mezöberényi Petőfi Sándor Evangelical High School’s students are 13 -19 years old. Students have the opportunity to learn physics, space technology and the newest findings in science and the universe.

The Hungarian Scout Association (HSA) offers an educational program that emphasizes the natural sciences, physics, biology, astronomy, mathematics, and geography. Many of the scouts (ages 7 to 18 years old) are licensed radio amateurs actively involved in HF, UHF, and satellite communication projects.

This will be a Multipoint telebridge Contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions of astronaut Tibor Kapu, amateur radio call sign HA5TRO. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHz and may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the telebridge station.

The ARISS amateur radio ground station (telebridge station) for this contact is in Greenbelt, Maryland. The amateur radio volunteer team at the ground station will use the call sign, K6DUE to establish and maintain the ISS connection.

The ARISS radio contact is scheduled for July 3, 2025 at 1:05:59 pm CEST (Hungary) (11:05:59 UTC, 7:05 am EDT, 6:05 am CDT, 5:05 am MDT, 4:05 am PDT).
